For those who are disabled and live in developing countries, the average wheelchair is usually not an ideal solution. After all, how many “average” wheelchairs can handle rocky and rough terrain or are available in places where hospitals or doctor visits are a luxury few can afford?

Nearly forty years ago, a young high school motorcycle rider in Rockford, Illinois went over a grate, flipped over into the air and landed with a broken body. He became paraplegic. Because of the remarkable way Ralf Hotchkiss responded to his disability, thousands of people with disabilities here and in developing countries are now riding in durable, affordable wheelchairs.

> Whirlwind gets war victims fund grant for Colombia
Whirlwind has won a grant from the Leahy War Victims Fund (LWVF), a part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for a 21-month project in Colombia, South America. The project will run from October 2004 to July 2006.
