On January 10, 2005, APDK National Director, Hubert Seifert, told Whirlwind:
We launched our new range of rehabilitation products in December and have printed a catalogue which we will distribute in East Africa. We will also develop a website.
We are now able to mass produce crutches, orthotic joints, wheelchairs, trikes, boots, therapy equipment etc. in high quality.
In February we are getting a VSO volunteer from Holland who is a professional wheelchair designer and who has a lot of industrial experience. We are confident that we will further improve on quality and productivity with his assistance.
We received good funding from some Embassies which will allow us to produce about 700 wheelchairs and trikes this year.
We have developed the first prototype of the trike with the electric motor in the front hub which looks promising. We still have to solve a few technical problems and will soon look into solar charging of the batteries.
We have also solved the problem of the chain touching the frame of the trike. PHOTOS

Disacare is a Regional Resource and Training Center (DRRTC) that trains the staff of wheelchair workshops throughout the region to improve the technical skills and standards of wheelchairs needed in developing countries in order to improve the independence and mobility of wheelchair users. Disacare also works to develop a network of wheelchair workshops in order to exchange ideas and experiences, to provide knowledge, and to develop technical facilities in the workshops throughout the region.
